Definition
A plantar wart is a wart that grows on the sole of the foot, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Because of the pressure from standing and walking, plantar warts are often flattened and pushed inward, developing a hard, callus-like surface. They can be painful and make walking uncomfortable. They often have tiny black dots (blood vessels) visible on the surface. Imagine it as a pebble stuck in your shoe. Over-the-counter treatments and medical procedures can help remove them.
