Definition
A tree onion, also called an Egyptian onion or top onion, is unique because it produces bulbils (tiny bulbs) at the top of its stalk instead of flowers. These bulbils can be planted to grow new onions. Imagine an onion with tiny onion babies growing on its head. Unlike regular onions, tree onions have a double harvest: the underground bulb and the top bulbils. These bulbils can be eaten fresh or pickled. They add a unique flavor to dishes. The plant is easy to propagate.
